Exercises 1–4 have provided you with a hands-on introduction to composition and framing, animation principles, light, camera control, audio, and video editing. For this Term Project students will produce a 45-second to 2-minute video project.
This assignment is an opportunity to pursue your research interests and to expand techniques developed in this and other studio courses, applying them to the unique parameters of these topics.
Choose one of the topics to explore as a creative framework:
OBJECT NARRATIVE Choose an OBJECT. It can be familiar to you or not. It could be a household item, a treasure, an everyday thing, or something from a dollar store. It might be something you use regularly or use only on specific occasions. Try to imagine the OBJECT beyond the scope of your personal experience and research a range of interpretations. These will serve as entry points for project development. Some examples: Lemon by Maryam Talal Chopsticks by Joey Wong Everything is Temporary by Sam Hansel Cracked by Han Blizzard
MOVING POSTER Decide on a social idea, political message, poetic interpretation, fashion show or other event. Create a poster series that incorporates both type and image. Plan for dynamic elements such as moving type and motion imagery. Look at grid systems to help you plan your layout to match the video wall in the hallway (see here for details) . The series of 3 posters should be linked thematically. See Hallway Grid to help with layout for video wall. Some references: The Moving Poster Jennifer Sterling Design Elena Kudriavtseva
BOOK TRAILER Create an animated book trailer for a book that is meaningful to you or that you want to read. The book can be fiction or non-fiction. To help you determine a creative direction, you will need to do secondary research into the themes and structural elements of the book you choose, as well as the intended audience. Some examples: Comos by Charlotte Lucas You are Here: Discovering the Magic of the Present Moment by Luxvna Uthayakumar ****Rappers Delight by ****Pat Descartin
